I first learned about Kawaii Crate from the Reddit post “[CREATOR] New Anime and Japanese Snack Subscription – Kawaii Crate“. Hey! I like subscription boxes! I also like anime! This is like a Reese’s peanut butter cup of interests for me!

Final thoughts
There is a certain level of charm getting my Kawaii crate wrapped in plain paper. The box itself is from Staples. Unless they ordered in bulk I have to guess that there is significant cost to packaging the Kawaii Crates. I’m always intrigued at the business behind these subscription services! How well will this compete with other, more polished subscription boxes?
Speaking of which, there is a danger that Kawaii Crate may get confused with Kawaii Box (http://kawaiibox.com) which seems to be going after a completely different demographic! Gotta be careful there and market, market, market!
As Kawaii Crate is a new service I’m going hold any final verdict on this service. I think that for a first box ever for this service it was a pretty good attempt. There needs to be a little bit more thought about how everything is pieced together, though, as well as packaged.
For example, I opened this box and I had no idea that there was a theme to it. Nothing in the box nor in the letter which accompanied the contents. Nothing inside gave me any clue that the theme was Action & Adventure, something that I didn’t discover until I went to their website to do some research.
Kawaii Crate, you’re going to have to hire a designer to help you with developing your brand, your packaging (give me something to catch my eye) and tying your theme together. That said, I really am looking forward to your next crate! Please make sure that your “Summer Games” theme is more prominent inside the box!
