According to their website https://www.collectorcorps.com/:
Marvel Collector Corps is a subscription box service designed by Marvel and Funko. Created for the Marvel Collector, each box delivers 100% exclusive premium collectibles, apparel, and accessories direct from the Marvel Universe to your doorstep. Each box is built around a major Marvel event. Marvel Collector Corps celebrates the dedicated Marvel fan and intends to create a new Marvel Collector elite!

Holy cats, Batman! No, wait. I can’t say that. That would be just be wrong. I’m not exactly sure what I could say to appropriately exclaim how excited we were to get our Marvel Collector Corps box for April 2015. A collaborative endeavor between Marvel and Funko can only mean fun times ahead!

The packaging

The packaging for the Collector Corps box was pretty snazzy with about 5/8ths of old school Captain America’s head occupying the top of the box. Nothing gets you juiced up for a movie premiere like a big ol’ box with Cap on it and the word ‘Avengers’ emblazoned along the sides. Pop the box open and you’re pleasantly greeted with a comic imprint on the interior as well as an Collector Corps Ultron embroidered patch and a Marvel Collector Corps button.

Now, let me explain how snazzy this is. Several other crates include buttons in their boxes and these buttons are exactly what they sound like – little round metal disks. If you lived through the 1980’s then you’ll be familiar with the trend of collecting buttons with your favorite bands on them and then wearing them on your denim jacket. This Collector Corps button isn’t like that. The one that they give you is a nice, custom cut metal button featuring Captain America (again). It’s the kind of button you’d take with you to the Olympics and trade with other people. Remember when that was a thing?

So, you remove that cover and your then faced with…

The contents

The first thing you immediately notice is the Collector Corps exclusive Funko Hulkbuster. He’s cute. He’s menacing. In terms of Funko Pops he’s ENORMOUS. Seriously, you pull him out of the box and you realize this isn’t your regular vinyl figure. He’s a hefty little bobblehead. You just want to sit mesmerized at how well made he is with all the shine and detail he’s got going on. To be honest, the only thing that would make him better would be if he were made out of metal.

Next, you get a t-shirt that’s somewhat apropos for this weekend’s Mayweather/Pacquiao fight. According to their website there are 4 different shirts. I believe they’re all the same theme – like old fight posters featuring two boxers. The one we received was Iron Man vs. Ultron. Oooooh! So topical!

Next in the box is a crossover comic featuring the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy. Are they building up excitement for an actual cross-over movie? That would be completely bitchin’! What is this though? ANOTHER vinyl figure? Why, yes! It is! This one is from Dorbz and features an adorable, smiling Ultron. You know, the robot who wants to wipe humans off the face of the planet.

Look at that face! Ok, little fella! You go ahead and destroy a few continents and then I’ll put you back up on my collector’s shelf.

Final thoughts

The big question will be ‘is it worth it’? If you’re a Marvel fan or a Funko collector then it is a resounding ‘YES!’. They say you get about $50 worth of goods in every box and each box is about $25. Is that what we saw? If it wasn’t $50 then it was pretty darn close. I was running a tally in my head about what each item cost – kind of like playing one of those games on ‘The Price is Right’ – and I was clocking this box in closer to $45. But it was still a pretty good value.

The experience of opening the box, being welcomed into the ‘Collector Corps’ as if it was an exclusive club, and seeing the high quality offerings from buttons to vinyl figures was pretty good. This is one of those specialty boxes that, if you’re a fan, then you definitely want the next box.

Unfortunately, they ship every other month so the anticipation is going to drive you bonkers.
